“I literally fall for the nostalgic and melancholy of The Edge of Love. The chords and arpeggios marry beautifully with Lisa’s fragile and emotional voice.” Claude Scébat Rock’n’Reviews “creating a melancholic melody that is captivatingly beautiful.” Build Our Own Nashville

Beautiful tributes coming in for Neal Casal. Been feeling heartbroken at the loss of someone who was a huge musical inspiration to me. World class musician, singer/songwriter, photographer and such a warm, kind soul. He provided huge encouragement when I was starting my career. I loved his music so much I would perform and cover his beautiful songs. He said it meant a lot to him that I covered his amazing track ‘Fell on Hard Times’ and put it on one of my albums. A true artist – I can’t believe he’s gone. https://jambands.com/…/jay-blakesberg-shares-memories-of-…/…
Live one-off performance I did of his wonderful and emotional song “Fell on Hard Times” at Norwich Arts Centre – such great and powerful lyrics – during a UK headline tour.
Really excited to hear that I’m a Semi-Finalist in the renowned International Songwriting Competition with ‘Courage’ a song I wrote and performed beautifully by Breeze Redwine. It’s judged by artists such as Bastille, Lorde, Donovan, Chris Cornell, Ziggy Marley, Tom Waits, Keane, Ryan Bingham and Rickie Lee Jones while previous winners include Passenger, Bastille, Kimbra and Vance Joy. Wow!
New videos, playing Sam Outlaw’s ‘Country Love Song’
‘Doomsday’ by Ryan Adams. Also my recent live review of his intimate Rough Trade gig has been added to Songwriting Magazine.
Also playing one of my favourite songs, Neil Young’s lovely ‘Tell Me Why’ from the wonderful ‘After the Goldrush’
Very excited to announce that my brand new EP ‘Another Place and Time’ will be released through Proper Distribution on April 8th! There are details about it in my new music column published in today’s Evening News. Can’t wait to share it with you all!
It’s been a very busy week as I’ve also been preparing the release of my student Breeze’s debut single which is called ‘Courage’ written by me. That is also going to be released through Proper Distribution, so impressed were they by the track, on April 1st.
Earlier this week I was asked to step in as special guest for rising folk star Kelly Oliver who was performing at the Bicycle Shop. Sadly her support Marina Florance had to pull out due to illness. It was nice to perform to an appreciative audience and lovely to meet the very talented Kelly:
I also managed to find a little bit of time to record a live cover of one of my favourite songs, ‘All the Luck in the World’ by Neal Casal who has been a huge inspiration to my songwriting. I really love the lyrics and melody and hope you enjoy!
