I really hope that you’re all keeping safe and well during this unprecedented and difficult time. I’ve been using this time to be creative and written and recorded ‘From Afar’ at home. The heartfelt song is all about missing our loved ones during this difficult time. The song is only available to purchase at my Bandcamp store ~ thanks so much for listening and any support 💖 lisaredford.bandcamp.com/track/from-afar
I’ve also filmed a little music video at home in Norwich and at a beautiful village nearby during a quiet walk. Wesley is the gorgeous springer spaniel – my very able and well behaved co-star! Thank you so much for watching. Huge thanks to All Things Norfolk for this lovely feature
Behind the Song: Lisa Redford ‘Anything but Easy’ ~ I love to share my songwriting process and in this new video I’m talking about the inspiration, writing and recording of my first single from ‘Edge of Love’ Huge thanks to SW20 Country – Sounds of Nashville for all their support, it really means a lot. I also recently did a fun live-stream show for them ~ the video and other live-streams are at the Shows page.
Also for SW20 Country I recorded this lovely interview with the show:
I’ve also been enjoying learning and playing acoustic cover requests that I’ve received from fans and friends. Here’s the brilliant song ‘Crowded Table’ from The Highwomen.
Also playing this beautiful Neal Casal song ‘Moving on Without You’
Beautiful tributes coming in for Neal Casal. Been feeling heartbroken at the loss of someone who was a huge musical inspiration to me. World class musician, singer/songwriter, photographer and such a warm, kind soul. He provided huge encouragement when I was starting my career. I loved his music so much I would perform and cover his beautiful songs. He said it meant a lot to him that I covered his amazing track ‘Fell on Hard Times’ and put it on one of my albums. A true artist – I can’t believe he’s gone. https://jambands.com/…/jay-blakesberg-shares-memories-of-…/…
Very excited to announce that my brand new EP ‘Another Place and Time’ will be released through Proper Distribution on April 8th! There are details about it in my new music column published in today’s Evening News. Can’t wait to share it with you all!
It’s been a very busy week as I’ve also been preparing the release of my student Breeze’s debut single which is called ‘Courage’ written by me. That is also going to be released through Proper Distribution, so impressed were they by the track, on April 1st.
Earlier this week I was asked to step in as special guest for rising folk star Kelly Oliver who was performing at the Bicycle Shop. Sadly her support Marina Florance had to pull out due to illness. It was nice to perform to an appreciative audience and lovely to meet the very talented Kelly:
I also managed to find a little bit of time to record a live cover of one of my favourite songs, ‘All the Luck in the World’ by Neal Casal who has been a huge inspiration to my songwriting. I really love the lyrics and melody and hope you enjoy!
Check out this really lovely new interview with the excellent Proper Music blog about my passion for music and early music influences and inspirations. Talking about music is one of my favourite things to do and here I discuss how my mum and dad’s eclectic taste opened up a whole new musical world and how seeing favourite male songwriters Neal Casal and Boo Hewerdine inspired me to get out there and do it on my own. Previous artists interviewed for this Waking the Muse feature include Eve Selis, June Tabor, Seth Lakeman and Gretchen Peters so am in illustrious company!
Check out this live video from a session on NY Radio Show, brand new song ‘Dreaming in Crowds’. Also just had a GREAT 2 days’ recording in Brooklyn adding cello, double bass, brushes, percussion, keyboards and piano. I’ve now finished 4 new songs with the incredibly talented Jeff Hill. Jeff has worked with two of my favourite songwriters Neal Casal and Teddy Thompson and is in one of my favourite bands Hazy Malaze. He has also worked with Rufus Wainwright, Regina Spektor and is also currently recording Erin Mckeown. As well as my acoustic style, we have added some cello, double bass, brushes, percussion, keyboards and beautiful piano. As mentioned before, I have also recorded some new songs with the equally talented drummer and dear friend Dan Fadel, also in Hazy Malaze. I’m so excited about these new songs and can’t wait to share them with you!
