Lisa Redford has been heralded by legendary BBC Radio 2 Bob Harris as “one of our finest singer/songwriters”, and earned worldwide acclaim for her heartfelt Americana tinged music with memorable melodies and stunning vocals.  She has also performed with, and opened for many respected international artists within the worlds of country, folk and Americana, performed at prestigious festivals such as C2C Country to Country at London’s O2 two years running, Red Rooster, Sound & Vision, Greenbelt, Weyfest, Folk East, Latitude and Ipswich Music Day. She has also recorded live sessions for Bob Harris on Radio 2, various BBC sessions and Amazing Radio.

Lisa has released three acclaimed albums Slipstream’, ‘Lost Again’ and ‘Clouds with Silver’ as well as EP’s ‘Reminders’, ‘Another Place and Time’ and brand new release “Edge of Love” that have garnered outstanding print reviews and received airplay across the world including Bob Harris’s Radio 2 shows and Acoustic Cafe, radio’s best international showcase for new acoustic music. Her original song ‘Dragonfly’ was played on a Bob Harris ‘Best of British’ show’ which featured the best songwriters in the UK. The song was also used in an independent film in LA.

A live performance of ‘Dragonfly’, supporting Eliza Carthy:

At A Night in Nashville with Sarah Darling, Jenn Bostic and Michael Logen:

Lisa has also been invited to record two live sessions for Whispering Bob TV’s ‘Under the Apple Tree’

Having been based in the US as well as the UK, Lisa’s song writing for others has been receiving Awards.  In July 2015 her original song ‘Here Alone’ was performed by Breeze Redwine, the winner of the Pre-Teen Award at TeenStar, the UK’s biggest teenage singing competition at Birmingham’s NEC.  In 2016 ‘Courage’ a song she wrote for Breeze Redwine, won Best Original Song at WCOPA, the World Championship of Performing Arts in Hollywood. She has also been a semi-finalist at the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) “the songwriting competition to take note of.” The New York Times.

Lisa also writes for Songwriting Magazine where she reviews major music events and festivals, interviews artists such as Courtney Marie Andrews and Ethan Johns, as well as offering music and songwriting advice to thousands of readers. Since December 2018 she has been hosting a show – the Afternoon Session – on Future Radio in Norwich.

“Live, her voice really has immense power yet great control too and reminds me of the same heart worn tender vibrato of a young Emmylou Harris. Lisa’s voice is purer with a warm timbre, but has that same raw emotion in her voice that makes you feel she has lived through all the heartbreak she sings and writes about.” Americana UK Live Review

Happy May everyone!

Always love this time of year and been keeping very busy and creative here in Manhattan. Been to some some really cool and inspiring music and film events including the launch of the Tribeca Film Festival which debuted the new Cameron Crowe documentary film ‘The Union’ (this was then followed by a live solo appearance by Sir Elton John himself who started the set with two perennial favourites and classics ‘Tiny Dancer’ and a song I’ve been to known to perform ‘Rocket Man’). Also saw The Swell Season Movie and was moved all over again by the heartfelt and passionate music of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglov.

Last night was at a taping of VH1’s ‘Storytellers’ with Ray LaMontagne. Amazing sound, great band and highlights included a really cool version of one of my favourite Neil Young’s classics ‘Out on the weekend’. There’s just so much to inspire you here!

Testimonials

“Lisa has been an amazing vocal coach to my daughter Breeze. She has been having lessons for over 2 years and worked wonders with Breeze’s confidence, performance, breath control and vocal ability. She’s guided her through difficult songs and different styles while being constantly supportive and encouraging as well as regularly sending exercises and backing tracks. She has provided invaluable guidance and support for when Breeze has had major auditions in London and across the UK and Breeze recently won the Pre Teen Award at the prestigious national Teen Star competition at Birmingham’s NEC. Lisa has also been teaching Breeze guitar and she is already on her way to playing lots of songs. Thank you Lisa. We couldn’t have done it without you.” Jackie Redwine

p2499051963-2-6807321

“Lisa has patiently been teaching me guitar for nearly four years, both electric and acoustic. She is calm, funny, friendly and very talented. My lessons are tailored to me, at my pace, at my level and to suit me. Times of lessons vary to suit me as my work schedule is varied; she is flexible. I thoroughly enjoy the lessons. The music we play is to my taste – she knows what I do not like! I learn something new every lesson.

Whatever your age, ability or music destination, Lisa is a patient, fun and musically gifted teacher. She is also based near Unthank Road in Norwich, which, for me is great.”
Rachel Lunness (age 51)

“As others have said, Lisa has a really patient and flexible approach to teaching. We had been meeting regularly at her home for ukulele lessons and then I moved! Now, we have lessons via Facetime and that really works for me. I’ve been able to continue learning without having to leave my sofa! But no, it’s really nice to have the consistency. I like Lisa’s bespoke take on content and she always makes sure to send any lesson material via email, ahead of time. She’s full of ideas and has a great ‘can do’ attitude. Lessons with Lisa are always really enjoyable!” Heidi Secker

“Since having singing lessons with Lisa, I’ve noticed dramatic changes in my voice, for example I always used to sing from my throat and I’d run out of breath very, very quickly. Lisa has sent me vocal exercises and backing tracks to practise at home, which I find very useful in preparation for the next lesson. It’s a great hobby, and it’s something that I look forward to doing each fortnight, which is quite funny because I actually have a singing phobia, but Lisa’s teaching style puts me at ease. Ann Marie Harrison

“Lisa has really helped me with my vocals and given me so much more confidence with my singing. She has shown me some great vocal techniques which have really improved my singing.” Kate Yuill

“Before I started having singing sessions with Lisa, I didn’t feel confident anymore at my ability to sing. Since having the sessions with Lisa, she has helped me to gain my confidence back, she is friendly and approachable. She has shown me how to strengthen my breathing skills and support my core vocal ability and head voice. Sharing her vocal warm ups and techniques to attempt some challenging songs…Lisa is helping me to prepare for a big audition and thanks to Lisa the song I have chosen is broadening my vocal ability to a higher standard, Lisa is being patient and providing me with some really supportive feedback to progress further.” Rachael Francis

“My 10 year old daughter, Saskia, has been having guitar and singing lessons with Lisa. Within weeks of starting she went from not being able to play a thing to singing and playing many of her favourite songs.  Since then she has gone from strength to strength.  Lisa has been a real inspiration to Saskia.  She knows how to connect with children.  She’s vibrant and fun but at the same time nurturing and attentive.  It’s a real pleasure to hear my daughter perform.  Thanks Lisa.” Kerry Williams

“I have been attending vocal lessons with Lisa for about a year now, as a student at Access To Music I was looking for some extra support with my vocals. Lisa is honest, patient and understanding of my vocal needs. I have learnt what my voice is capable of, breathing technique’s and warm up exercise’s. All of these contribute to my new found confidence with regards to my singing. I would highly recommend Lisa for all your vocal needs.” Karl Moore
